About the Company

Let's strt with our first question "what does amika mena?" the meaning of Amika is "loved friend" or how the company has positioned it "A girls best friend." Brilliant we love the idea as it really rolls right through their culture and into their products.

What is it supposed to DO?

100% ceramic plates, can be used to create straight, wavy, and curly styles.

Gentle on the hair and incredibly easy to use. Ceramic radiates far-infrared heat, which preserves moisture in the hair shaft and protects the hair cuticle from damage.

Unique 1.25-inch floating plate design. Adjustable temperature 180°F-450°F. Dual voltage 110V-240V.

Heats up and is ready to use in 10 seconds. One-year warranty.

How does the product feel when you use it?

What we felt is that the iron had a great spring mechanism and felt quite comfortable in the hands. It was not heavy and quite easy to use.

How does the packaging look and hold up?

Packaging is awesome you feel great getting the product as it is packed in a great box. It came with clips which we also though made a lot of sense. The box uses magnetic closing tabs, again very cool. There is also plenty of room in the box to store additional items directly in the box.

We put it through the paces!

So when we tested it, we tested it a session stylists not consumers, our thought was if we can beat it up a bit then we will really know if the product would make sense for our clients. DO NOT let the Cheetah print or the hot pink color through you off.

The iron heated up FAST and stayed hot on big heads of hair. It glided through the hair easily and when we added a bit of product to work into the hair the iron responded well. after three people in a row the iron was still running hot. The cord was nice and long which is great for stylists because electric on set is not always where it should be. The swivel aspect of the cord was great as well and we expected that based on the price point.

AS suggested the rounded edges worked great for creating waves, and because they are not hard edges and heat up as well your able to place a little bit of tension on the hair with just a slight twist pulling it through the hair.
Amika suggested to try some waves with the iron and they were nice and smooth by simply flipping the hair out as we approach the end.

Peter Anthony and his friends share tricks of the trade!

Amika suggested to try some waves with the iron and they were nice and smooth by simply flipping the hair out as we approach the end.

We played and created alternate waves with the iron as well, moving up and down the hair folding up, slide down fold back slide down repeat etc.. very sexy look and very easy with how the plates glided through the hair. (the iron needs to be HOT to do this)

With this we used the smallest amount of "oil Treatment" we were testing for amika as well. The iron worked great with the product and the hair was really shiny with great movement. So a touch of oil is cool here.

We also used some hair spray (from a different company) and the iron slid right through without getting held up.

Products you will need to complete the experience

The amika Oil Treatment is clearly a rocking product to compliment the iron. Small amount worked into dry hair really make a big difference. Amika includes clips but you should have a rocking tail comb and they make a really cool one as well.

Peter Anthony shares his last thoughts on the product

Overall I liked the product. It is priced just below some of its competitors and performed equally with most, better then some as well. The plates were the right size and overall the Hot Pink Cheetah Ceramic Iron is a great addition to your collection. AS a GUY, I am waiting for the primer black with a cool emblem.
