What To Look For In Hair Extensions

These days, if you are really tired of having short hair, all it takes is taking a trip to a salon - you walk in with short hair, and walk out after a while with long, beautiful, tresses - it’s amazing! No more waiting for months on end for your hair to grow - just make that appointment, and that’s it. However, before you rush off to have your hair transformed, you need to know what to look for in hair extensions.

Basically, extensions come in two types - synthetic and human. Of course the synthetic extensions are less expensive, but they don’t have the look or feel of human hair. They tend to be a little stiff, with little volume and no bounce. On the other hand, human hair extensions, although more expensive, will give you a more natural look and feel.

There are two options for human hair extensions - clip on extensions, or those that are permanently attached. Each of these options has their own advantages as well as disadvantages. Clip on extensions are cheaper and can be attached and removed easily every time you feel like having longer hair. Permanently attached extensions on the other hand, are more expensive as you need a professional to do this for you, but once the extensions are attached, they are part of you for a long time.

It is so important to know what to look for when deciding on hair extensions. For instance, if you do decide to opt for the clip on extensions, your best bet is to go for brand name extensions, such as Raquel Welch, Puton Pieces, and Easel-Hair, as their extensions are high quality and really natural-looking.

For permanently attached hair extensions that are done at a salon, there are also two options - either individual strands attached to your own hair, or wefts that are braided into your own hair. Different chemicals are used to attach individual strands, and this can sometimes be rather difficult to remove without damaging your own hair.

Wefts on the other hand, are totally safe, as they don’t damage your own hair at all. The only problem though, is that as your hair grows, it becomes necessary to re-braid the wefts. This usually has to be done every two months, which does of course add to the cost.

Another thing to look for in hair extensions is the length of hair that you want. The longest extensions are usually about 26 to 30 inches long. Longer than this is not recommended, as it becomes too heavy, and can result in headaches and general discomfort to you. The average length of hair extensions is about 18 to 22 inches and looks absolutely great on women of average height.

Now that you know what to look for in hair extensions, make your choice, have them done or do them yourself, and enjoy the amazing transformation. Remember, proper care of your extensions will allow you to enjoy them for a whole lot longer.
