Mike Karg gets around. He's an internationally known celebrity hair stylist, an award-winning platform Artist and an electric educator & spokesperson. But Karg is most famous for what he doesn't do: follow fads, create overdone looks, or fail to ignite a room with his magnetic energy and unique style. Karg showed talent for hair styling at the early age of 15. After completing an apprenticeship in Zurich, Karg moved to London where he studied under Tony & Guy and at the London Hair Academy. In 1990, he headed straight to Hollywood to launch his career as a hair stylist. "I was just this little Swiss guy with a dream," he recalls. Within a number of years Karg established his Beverly Hills clientele including such A-List celebrity clients as Sharon Stone, Marla Maples, Marissa Tomei and K.D. Lang. Hungry for new challenges and inspiration, Karg relocated to New York city in 1994. There he built an East Coast clientele and was immediately hired as an international platform artist for Wella USA. Becoming known for his charisma on stage and innovativeness as a stylist, it wasn't long before Karg was sharing center-stage with world-renowned stylists like Trevor Sorbie, Frederic Fekkai, Vidal Sassoon and Patrick Cameron.
In 1996, the International Beauty Show Group named Karg "Newcomer of the Year." With an insatiable appetite for fashion, Karg also enjoys success as editorial hair stylist. Earning a reputation for delivering unrehearsed perfection under the most demanding conditions, Karg has become the stylist of choice for many top designers and photographers, including Todd Oldham, Hugo Boss and John Valdi, Frank Wartenberg. His work has been featured in Vogue, Maxim, Flaunt, Harpers & Queens, YM, Vanity Fair & People, to name a few.
In 1999 Karg landed back in L.A. and was hired as the Spokesperson and Artistic Director for Goldwell USA. In addition to traveling the globe promoting Goldwell products and educating stylists, maintaining an East Coast, Beverly Hills, Denver and Memphis clientele, Karg still finds time for editorial and TV work. Karg's energizing stage presence and unique way with words has landed him several gigs performing live makeovers and demonstrating his signature "dry haircuts" on various TV programs.
Now Karg looks forward to launching his own productline featuring the KARG K-Pouch, the KARG K-Longsleeve Shirt, the KARG K-unplugged Video Vol. 1 and the original KARG Shear K-8, a professional dry hair texturizing shear, a trademark tool that he uses to achieve his signature flowy, natural lifestyle look.
